The Carpenter
The carpenter was and is a well-known profession in the Patagonia. With hardwoods, such as the lenga, this character embraced his imagination and experience to construct huge, sturdy houses, capable of withstanding all kinds of changes in the weather, winds of more than 100kms per hour and snow during the coldest of winters.
An interesting mix between European architectural styles and the craftsmanship of the carpenters who arrived from Chiloé developed, giving birth to a marked architectural identity in the city and the Magellan ranches. Characteristic elements of the area, such as gables and roof spires, wooden floors, lenga-wood doors and European influences in furniture designs, can all be found in La Yegua Loca.
